Texas Property Tax Exemptions for Disabled Veterans

Learn how Texas veterans with a VA disability rating can save thousands on property taxes, including a 100% exemption for fully disabled veterans.

Texas Veterans: You've Earned It. Now Save on Property Taxes.

Texas offers some of the best property tax benefits in the nation for our veterans. Whether you have a partial disability rating or are 100% disabled, you can significantly lower your monthly housing costs and increase your buying power.

    100% VA Disability (or TDIU)

If you have a 100% service-connected disability rating from the VA, or you are paid at the 100% rate due to Total Disability based on Individual Unemployability (TDIU), you are eligible to pay $0 in property taxes on your primary residence!

    • No income limits
    • No home value cap
    • Must be your homestead (primary residence)

    Reference: Texas Tax Code §11.131

    Partial Disability (10% - 90%)

Even if you are not 100% disabled, you still receive a valuable reduction on your home's taxable value, which saves you money every single year.

    • 10% – 29% Disability: $5,000 OFF taxable value
    • 30% – 49% Disability: $7,500 OFF taxable value
    • 50% – 69% Disability: $10,000 OFF taxable value
    • 70% – 100% Disability: $12,000 OFF taxable value

    What This Means For You

These exemptions directly impact your bottom line. By lowering your property tax burden, you achieve a lower monthly cost when owning a home, which directly leads to increased buying power. This opens up more opportunities to invest in real estate and secure the perfect home for your future.
