Moving to Humble TX: Roads, Airport Access and Getting Set Up

Relocating to Humble TX: how US 59/I-69, Beltway 8, Will Clayton Parkway and FM 1960 connect to Houston and IAH, plus utility, tax and timing tips.

Humble sits in northeast Harris County, next door to George Bush Intercontinental Airport and along the US 59/I-69 corridor. For people relocating for work, the area's appeal is usually access: to the airport, to downtown Houston and to Lake Houston. This guide focuses on the practical side of the move. For listings and local tools, see the Humble TX real estate hub.

    How the area connects

    • Downtown Houston: US 59/I-69 south is the main route. The Hardy Toll Road runs parallel to the west.
    • IAH: Will Clayton Parkway leads west toward the airport's terminals; FM 1960 and Beltway 8 are alternate routes.
    • The Woodlands: FM 1960 west to I-45 north, or the Grand Parkway (SH 99) depending on where you start.
    • Energy Corridor: the longest regular commute from here, typically Beltway 8 or downtown connectors to I-10 west.

Check live traffic for your own start and end points. TxDOT's DriveTexas map shows current construction and closures.

Know what kind of address you are moving to

The name "Humble" covers the City of Humble, parts of the City of Houston and unincorporated Harris County. Your trash pickup, water bill and tax rate depend on which one. Before you sign a lease or a contract, look up the address on HCAD and ask the seller or landlord who provides water and sewer.

Things worth seeing before you decide

Spend a day getting to know the area. Main Street in old downtown Humble, the Mercer Botanic Gardens operated by Harris County, and the shoreline of Lake Houston give you a feel for the older and newer parts of the area. Then drive your commute at the hour you would actually leave.

Time the move, not just the house

Relocations go smoother when the sale or lease of your current home, your new purchase and the moving truck are on one calendar. If you are selling elsewhere, start with your net: the seller net sheet estimates proceeds, and the home equity assessment shows what you have to work with. Service members with orders can coordinate dates around report-no-later-than requirements; ask early.

    Short-term housing

If closing dates do not line up, look at a seller leaseback, a short-term furnished rental, or a delayed move-in. Your agent can negotiate a leaseback into the contract so you are not paying for two moves.

    What recent sales look like

For a frame of reference, Redfin reports a City of Humble median sale price of $243,134 for the three months ending September 2026, 39 median days on market, and 28 homes sold in September 2026 (Redfin, accessed October 31, 2026). Homes in surrounding subdivisions may sell at very different levels, so compare by neighborhood.

Common questions about moving to Humble

Is a Humble address the same as the City of Humble?

No. Many homes with a Humble mailing address sit outside city limits in unincorporated Harris County, including much of the Atascocita area. City or county status affects who provides water and sewer, which taxing units apply and which rules govern permits. Check the address on the Harris Central Appraisal District (HCAD) site before you fall for a home.

When should I file for a homestead exemption?

Once you own the home and live in it as your principal residence, apply with HCAD. Exemptions the seller had do not carry over to you, so your first full tax bill may differ from the seller's.

How far ahead should I start looking?

If you are relocating from out of state, start a remote search two to three months before your move date. That leaves time for a scouting trip, an offer, the option period and a typical financed closing.
